A freight agent acts as an intermediary who connects shippers with carriers but does so under the umbrella of a freight brokerage. Freight agents work under the authority of a licensed freight broker. Freight brokers are required to be licensed and ensure compliance with transportation regulations, whereas freight agents operate under a broker’s MC, authority, systems etc. Brokers assume more financial risk and manages the business back end processes and setup. Agents have less financial risk. Freight Agents earn through commissions based on the loads they handle.

In summary, freight brokers and freight agents do the same thing. While both roles involve facilitating the transport of goods, the freight broker holds the business credentials and responsibilities, and the freight agent focuses on their own book of business logistical and operational aspects under the guidance and authority of the broker.

We provide freight agent mentorship along with agent placement within our agency along with this self paced course.
